Classroom Lesson Plan

Due to nowCOAST'S intuitive and interactive interface as well as the large amount of data it aggregates, nowCOAST can be useful as a tool for a variety of applications. It is for this reason that the NOS Office of Education has created, in cooperation with the nowCOAST team, a classroom lesson plan for grades 9 - 12 that introduces students to Geographic Information Systems by outlining the web portal's real-life application in marine navigation.

The lesson plan is part of NOS' Discovery Classroom, a program that emphasizes hands-on activities using online data resources and is correlated to National Science Education Standards and the American Association for the Advancement of Science's Benchmarks for Science Literacy.
