Map Information

This nowCOAST™ geolinks map service provides maps depicting the locations of remote-sensing observing sites along with hyperlinks to the web sites posting the latest data from these observing sites. The hyperlinks include 1) web cam images and 2) weather radar reflectivity imagery.

Web Cameras

The web cameras layer includes links to web pages posting the latest images from web cams from a variety of local, state, and federal governmental agencies and academic institutions.

Weather Radar Reflectivities

The weather radar reflectivities layer includes links to NWS web pages posting the latest weather radar short-range base reflectivities from NWS and DOD Doppler weather radar sites around the U.S. The base reflectivity is from the lowest 1/2 degree elevation radar scan. The short-range base reflectivity extends out to 124 nm or 143 miles. The long-range base reflectivity extends out to 248 nm or about 286 miles. On nowCOAST™, a 120 nm radius around each radar site, approximately corresponding to the short-range base reflectivity, is depicted.

Background Information

The location information used to create the maps of web cams, and radar sites are manually updated about once per year based on information on web pages or by operators of the web pages.

This nowCOAST™ map server is not time-enabled.
